Stretch tents are relatively new on the Romanian market; until now, you could mostly encounter them at various trendy festivals. But are they suitable for private events, weddings, baptisms, birthdays? How could they not be? Especially if you desire an event outside the box, in nature. First, let us explain the differences between traditional tents with aluminum poles and stretch or Bedouin tents. 1. Structure.
Stretch tents or marquees are composed of a single elastic membrane for the roof and are erected using poles and stakes. The technique is similar to that of simple camping tents. Their name, Bedouin is given precisely because of their origin; initially, they were used by African tribes to provide optimal covering for large areas, with essential sun protection and natural ventilation in the desert heat. On the other hand, the classic tent with aluminum poles is configured with several membranes attached to the framework provided by the aluminum poles. Side walls of different types are mounted on these. Some are non-transparent, others may have windows, or resemble curtains. Even if left open, their appearance will inevitably be shaped by their structure.
2. Versatility.
Stretch tents can be easily set up in various interesting shapes; their elastic membrane allows for many variations. Tents with aluminum poles have a fixed structure; the canvas is mounted on it and cannot be modified. In contrast, the Bedouin tent can be configured in several ways, even with one or more ends lowered near the ground. While this naturally reduces the useful area of the tent, it is a very useful property if the event location has a smaller area. Tents with aluminum poles can only be assembled on flat ground, whereas stretch tents can be assembled even in locations with a slight slope and rough terrain.
3. Sun Protection.
Under stretch tents, there is real shade; you feel like you're under a giant tree! The membrane can be raised in such a way that the sides remain free, allowing for ideal air circulation. This quality is very useful in hot weather, as it was not invented by Bedouins for nothing :) African tents also have high-quality membranes made of UV-protected material, are fire-resistant, and fully comply with European standards. Tents with aluminum poles are also of higher quality. There are quality membranes with sun protection available for them too, but cheap variants are widespread.
4. Rain Protection.
The tent with aluminum poles can be completely closed, which is a plus point in case of rain. For stretch tents, the roof can be assembled to better protect from the direction of the rain. Even in heavy rain, you'll be safe if you place the tables 1.5 meters away from the edges of the Stretch tent. In some cases, indicated side walls can also be installed. It also depends on the material of the tent's membrane, and how many liters of water it can resist per square meter. Be careful not to be fooled! There are companies that offer tents made of weak materials, which don't withstand rain much better than a sun umbrella.
5. Transport.
The stretch tent is easier to transport; there is no need for a truck as in the case of a classic tent. This reduces costs but is also a plus point for environmental protection.
6. Aesthetics.
This is a category we left for last, although it may be the most important. In this category, the stretch tent clearly wins. It can be elegant or even artistic; their open forms can be easily decorated in various natural, rustic, but also elegant styles. Don't forget to install fairy lights! Without them, it's not the same feeling.
